“Mad Men” is by far one of my favorite drama series of all time. The sharp writing, the complex characters, and, of course, the unforgettable scenes make it one of the greatest TV shows ever. As a data enthusiast, I wanted to combine my love for “Mad Men” with my passion for analytics—so I built a dashboard that highlights my favorite scenes from the show.
I wanted the dashboard to do more than just list my favorite moments. Instead, I designed it to visually represent key details—episode viewership, season averages, timeline of actual events depicted. Using interactive elements, I ensured that each scene could be explored in detail along with a scene description (via tooltip) by ChatGPT and myself.
Below is a list of Tableau functionalities used:
- Tooltips as a information pane when hovering over shapes
- Shape Icons used to represent my pivotal scenes
- URL actions tied to those shapes
- Dual chart (bar and circle chart) to create a timeline of episode viewership and real events mentioned during the show
- My take on ‘Bar Trend Charts’ to visualize viewership by episode and seasonal average
- My inspiration for this was stemmed from this great dashboard by Toan Hoang ( Link )
