Today, we participate in the ‘Data+Movies’ Tableau series in conjunction with an assessed IMDB movie dataset.
Note: the dataset is shared via Tableau Public.
I decided to view the filmography of the great Martin Scorsese. He has directed some of my favorite movies and has been nominated for Best Picture/Best Director multiple times throughout his career. Personal opinion; I still feel its a robbery that Scorsese has only won one Academy Award for one film. When examining the dataset provided by IMDB; a lot of things came to mind. A 7+ IMDB rating across both the US/GB votes is pretty strong. When looking at his films compared to other domestic films; we see that his portfolio of works rank pretty high compared to other great films. This lineup of films makes him a must work with from highly creative actors in Hollywood. From Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel and now Leonardo DeCaprio, Matt Damon, Daniel Day Lewis. Scorsese has remained a filmmaker that an actor drops what they’re doing to get that collaborative opportunity. From a genre perspective; we see that Scorsese thrives in projects that are drama crime thrillers.
If we had access to further data; perhaps film soundtrack/scores, I am confident that we would see a high utilization of The Rolling Stones in Scorsese’s films. Just a hunch! And perhaps something to explore further on a future dashboard.
More to come.
Below is a snapshot of the dashboard and quick video you can follow on YouTube.
Note: Data listed every Scorsese project with the exception of Killers of the Flower Moon; premiering in 2023
Thanks!!!
